Adel Bowling Club
A bowling green in the AWMA grounds was first proposed in 1922. However it was not until after the Second World War in 1945 that the General Committee submitted proposals to provide a bowling green, erect a combined cricket and bowling pavilion, and build extensions to the existing Hall buildings. The AWMA Trustees approved the proposals and launched an appeal to raise funds. It was decided that provision of a bowling green should be the first priority, and the Green was eventually laid in 1947 at a cost of £793.0s.6d.
The combined cricket and bowls pavillion never materialised - a second-hand cricket pavillion was purchased from Creskeld Cricket Club - and it was not until 1961 that the timber bowls pavilion was erected where it is today.
Bowls has been a popular pastime at Adel ever since.
